For Suburban Hospital, 2009 will forever be recognized as the year that united the strength of our past with the promise of our future. A year highlighted by a single event that created an opportunity to blend a culture of caring with a culture of inquiry, assuring significant advances in clinical treatment, research, and medical education.
Becoming a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, one of the most renowned academic healthcare institutions in the world, while continuing to expand our research alliance with the National Institutes of Health, sets forth a vision for Suburban Hospital to help transform the future of healthcare in the Washington, DC region.
None of this could have been accomplished without an enduring commitment of philanthropy. In 2009, more than 2,100 generous donors helped to raise the level of philanthropic support to more than $14 million. A record year, thanks in large part to distributions received from the estate of Mrs. Betty Phillips, an extraordinarily generous 2008 bequest.
By allowing significant investment in advanced technology, program expansion, and clinical education initiatives, charitable funding helped to establish and maintain Suburban Hospital’s position of strength and enhanced our ability to care for our greater community.
