Dr. Robert Rothstein

BETHESDA, MD (December 7, 2010) – Suburban Hospital has named Dr. Robert Rothstein vice president of medical affairs (VPMA).

Dr. Rothstein earned his M.D. degree from Northwestern University Medical School and completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He has served as Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Suburban Hospital since 1986 and has taken an active leadership role in many important clinical initiatives including disaster preparedness and provider quality, and as a physician advisor for outcomes management.

“Our goal was to identify a physician executive who understood the complexity of community practice and at the same time could provide the necessary leadership of our integration with Johns Hopkins Medicine,” said Brian Gragnolati, President of Suburban Hospital. “With 25 years of service to Suburban Hospital, we believe Dr. Rothstein is uniquely positioned to achieve those objectives.”

In conjunction with Dr. Rothstein’s appointment, Dr. Philip Strauss will become the new Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Suburban Hospital. Dr. Strauss has worked in Suburban’s Emergency Department for 17 years, first as a staff emergency physician and, for the last 10 years, as assistant director of the department. Dr. Strauss received his undergraduate and medical school degrees from the University of Maryland and completed his residency in emergency medicine at the Medical Center of Delaware.
