(Bethesda, MD, October 29, 2007) In recognition of National Brest Cancer Awareness Month, Suburban Hospital will host the 9th Annual Living with Breast Cancer Symposium on Saturday, November 10, from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. Breast cancer patients, survivors, and supporters will come together for a free day of learning and sharing.
This year’s program, “Humor and Healing”, focuses on the therapeutic efforts of humor. Studies show that laughter and humor can reduce stress, help control pain, create an overall sense of well-being, and enhance one’s quality of life.
Featured speakers will address the many emotional and physical challenges associated with the disease and path toward recovery. They include:
· Lillie Shockney, RN, BS, MAS, Breast Cancer-Finding Humor Where You Lease Expect It;
· Nira Etons Berry, Laugh Alot Yoga: Bring Laughter into Your Life for Health and Fun!; and
· Marisa Acocella Marchetto, Drawing on Inner Strength: How a Cartoonist Battled Breast Cancer by Doing What She Knows Best.
