Bethesda, MD (March 3, 2011) - On Tuesday, March 22, and Thursday, March 24, 2011, Suburban Hospital will host a “Covering the Uninsured” event where financial counselors will be available to assist Maryland residents who are without health-care insurance coverage.
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, more than 75 percent of uninsured people are part of a working family. Either their employer doesn’t offer insurance or the employee contribution is considered too high.
“Suburban Hospital is committed to increasing access to quality medical care for our community,” said Monique Sanfuentes, director of Health and Wellness at Suburban. “In our third year of the program, Suburban Hospital is facilitating this process for the community members to get their questions answered and find out if they are eligible for Maryland medical assistance programs with the support and guidance of trained counselors.”
Participants will learn about various health-care insurance options, receive assistance in the application process and a checklist of “next steps” for those eligible to apply. Information on the Maryland Hospital Insurance Plan (MHIP) will also be provided to those not eligible for Medicaid.
Spanish assistance will be available and light refreshments will be served. For additional information call, 301-896-3939.
