Hundreds of patients have benefited from the services of the NIH Heart Center at Suburban Hospital since we opened our doors in September 2006. Formed through a partnership with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health and Johns Hopkins Medicine, our cardiac surgery program achieves better results in terms of fewer complications (such as infections, strokes, and irregular heart rhythms) than most hospitals in the region and the nation as well as fewer unplanned readmissions after surgery.
These results are particularly significant when you consider that patients come to Suburban Hospital much sicker and at higher risk than patients who have their surgeries at other hospitals nationally. Add to that our lower mortality rate and it's easy to see why patients and their physicians are so satisfied.
