How It Works

  • The LifeLine subscriber wears an adjustable personal HELP button on a cord around the neck or on a wrist strap. Whenever help is needed, any time of the day or night, a press of the button will send a call for help.
  • Pressing the HELP button activates the home unit, attached to the telephone, which automatically dials the Response Center.
  • At the Response Center, trained personnel are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. When a signal for help is received, they will call the subscriber's home.
  • If the subscriber can respond over the speaker phone, the monitor will send whatever kind of help is requested.
  • If the monitor is unable to communicate with the subscriber, they will call a "responder" to come to the home and see what help is needed. The responder is a friend, neighbor, or relative who is chosen to be called in the case of an emergency. This person should live nearby and have a key to enter the home.
  • When the responder arrives at the home, he or she presses a reset button on the home unit. This signals the Response Center that help has arrived. A monitor will then call to determine what the situation is and can send an ambulance if necessary.
