The 24-bed inpatient unit provides short-term evaluation, stabilization and treatment for adults and adolescents experiencing a psychiatric crisis or a temporary exacerbation of a chronic mental illness. Our patients' needs may include addiction treatment (for alcohol and/or drug abuse), detox and rehab; dual diagnosis (primary psychiatric and secondary addiction diagnosis); or inpatient electro-convulsive therapy (ECT). Services are provided within a pleasantly furnished, voluntary but locked, nursing unit.
Treatment in the inpatient unit involves two-stages. Patients are seen by their attending psychiatrist, who heads the treatment team. They also participate in a full range of therapy groups that pertain to their specific needs. Groups include:
Occupational Therapy
Group Psychotherapy
Dual Diagnosis Group
Addiction Counseling
Nursing Groups, including medication and education
Multifamily Group
Social work services and placement assistance are also provided, as well as family group and counseling. For more information on Suburban Hospital's Behavioral Health Services, or referral to a physician or therapist, please call 301.896.7777.
