Important Information About Flu Season

Visitor Information

Effective October 12, 2009, until further notice, Suburban Hospital's visitor and patient policy during the flu season is as follows:

 

Visitor/Patients | Stop! Please help us limit the spread of the flu

  • You MUST wear a mask if you are a patient and you have any symptoms of flu, runny nose, cough, and a fever more than 100°.
  • If you are a visitor and do not feel well, do not enter the hospital.
  • Children 12 years old and under may not visit the hospital, except to accompany a family member to the Emergency Department.

 

Emergency Department | Stop! If you have typical flu symptoms, runny nose, cough, a fever more than 100°

  • You must wear a mask in the Emergency Department.
  • Suburban Hospital will not routinely test you for the flu.
  • Suburban Hospital is not routinely giving patients anti-viral medications, such as Tamiflu®.

Governor Martin O’Malley Announces H1N1 (Swine) Flu Vaccine Available and Recommended for all Marylanders

Target populations remain a public health focus as vaccine becomes available to all

Baltimore, MD (December 8, 2009) Governor Martin O’Malley announced today that Maryland will expand the distribution of H1N1 (Swine) flu vaccine to the general population, adding healthy adults and seniors to the five target groups for whom the vaccine is currently recommended. Those target groups will remain a statewide priority as the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) reports a decline in flu activity following a late October second wave peak in H1N1 (Swine) flu.
