Audiology Services

Hearing impairment can limit social interaction with family and friends and is the leading communication problem experienced by older adults. Hearing loss means everyday activities become difficult. Often, patients are unaware of the causes of hearing loss and may presume nothing can be done for them.

At Suburban Hospital — the only hospital in Montgomery County that provides a full range of Audiological Services — certified, licensed audiologists use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and treatment options for patients with hearing and balance disorders.

Our Audiology Services are provided at the Suburban Outpatient Medical Center on Rockledge Drive in Bethesda. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, call 301.896.6840.

Improvements in the patient's ability to communicate begin with a comprehensive audiologic assessment. This individualized program quantifies and qualifies the hearing loss by site in the auditory system, and describes any communication disorder the hearing impairment may have caused. Various diagnostic testing and treatment options are considered, including rehabilitative therapy, hearing aids and electronystagmography for patients with dizziness.

Services Offered

  • Comprehensive Audiologic Assessment — including assessment of cochleotoxicity.

  • Hearing Aid Services — Comprehensive management of the hearing problem, once hearing aids are dispensed, include orientation, adjustment, follow-up with the patient and his or her family, any necessary modifications, cleaning and service. Technologically advanced and digitally programmable hearing aids are available and require additional follow-up rehabilitation.

  • Electronystagmography and Electrocochleography — for patients with dizziness.
