Putting patients first is central to the mission and vision that guide Suburban Hospital nurses and staff in their daily practice.  They treat every patient as unique and deserving of individualized and compassionate care.  Those who go above and beyond are honored with a variety of awards and recognitions throughout the year.

Nursing Newsletter:  The Pulse

Nurse Receives Prestigious "Silver Eddie" Award

Yvonne D'Arcy, MS, CRNP, CNS, received a "Silver Eddie" award for her article "How to Manage Pain in the Addicted Patient" that was published in Nursing 2010 magazine.  The Eddie Awards is the magazine publishing industry's largest editorial contest.  Hundreds of articles are submitted for consideration.

In May 2011, the newly adopted "Nursing Practice Model" was featured in an article in Johns Hopkins Dome.  The article describes the lengthy process that was taken to choose the words and phrases that best describe the essential elements of nursing practice at Suburban Hospital - putting patients first, education, respect, collaboration, compassion, and a professional practice environment.  Click here to read the article.

Beacon Award

Suburban Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit has received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The award recognizes the top critical care units in hospitals nationwide. Our Intensive Care Unit is a 24-bed unit caring for critical medical, surgical and trauma patients, and is one of the designated units for stroke care.  According to the AACN, as a Beacon Award recipient, Suburban Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit earned distinction in the following areas, as measured against evidence-based national criteria:

• Recruitment and retention
• Education, training and mentoring
• Research and evidence-based practice
• Patient outcomes
• Leadership and organization ethics
• Healing environment

“I am so excited for my nursing unit to be recognized for the excellent care we provide to some of the area’s most critically ill and injured patients,” said Kimberly Kelly RN, MBA, CCRN, Nursing Director of the ICU at Suburban Hospital.  “We have a collaborative team approach and a dedicated staff who are passionate about the work they do.”
