Last fall, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Suburban Hospital hosted two highly anticipated events — one to provide financial support for women’s cancer programs and services and the other to offer education, outreach, and support. According to Dr. Katherine Alley, medical director of breast care services, “Year after year, these events allow us to engage our community, raise awareness, and move forward in the fight against this wide-reaching disease. The funds raised help us enhance our clinical tools and develop additional supportive services for patients in need.”

Don’t be scared to survive and thrive! On Halloween, breast cancer survivors, family, and friends participated in an informative discussion about the importance of diet and exercise in reducing the risk of a breast cancer recurrence. Sessions included “Breast Cancer and Nutrition: Five Small Changes that Make a Big Difference” presented by registered dietitian Lynda McIntyre; “Benefits of Healthy Eating and Exercise After Breast Cancer” presented by medical oncologist Dr. Carolyn Hendricks; and “Breast Cancer and Fitness: A Call to Arms…and Legs” presented by internationally recognized physician, author, and medical expert Dr. Pamela Peeke.
