BETHESDA, Md. (March 4, 2010) – Suburban Hospital will offer free Medicaid screenings to the uninsured on Tuesday, March 23 from 9 a.m. to and Thursday, March 25 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the hospital. These screenings are being held during national “Cover the Uninsured Week,” an initiative designed to mobilize businesses, faith organizations and healthcare providers to reach out to vulnerable populations.
Nearly 760,000 Marylanders are currently living without healthcare coverage, 150,000 of which are children, according to the Maryland Hospital Association. Many uninsured residents are eligible for low-cost or free healthcare coverage through Medical Assistance.
“SuburbanHospital is dedicated to providing the community with free screenings to better the health and welfare of the more than 1 million citizens in MontgomeryCounty,” said Monique Sanfuentes, director of community health and wellness at SuburbanHospital. “This week offers SuburbanHospital the opportunity to educate and counsel our community members, who may be living without healthcare insurance.”
SuburbanHospital financial counselors will be on hand to assist Maryland residents who are without healthcare coverage. During the screenings, participants will learn about various healthcare insurance options, receive assistance in the application process and be provided a checklist of “next steps” to help those eligible to apply. Information on the Maryland Hospital Insurance Plan (MHIP) will also be provided to those not eligible for Medicaid.
Spanish assistance will be available, and light refreshments will be served. For additional information, please call 301.896.3939.
