2008 START! Greater Washington Heart Walk

On November 1 on the National Mall, Suburban Hospital will join the American Heart Association and thousands of Washington area residents to continue the fight against heart disease and stroke. You can help us! Please join our team or donate to our cause! American Heart Association START Program Icon

Heart disease and stroke are the nation's No.1 and No.3 killers; they claim more than 910,000 American lives each year. In FY05-06, AHA invested more than $543 million in research, professional and public education, and advocacy so people across America can live stronger, longer lives. To the millions of walkers, donors, and volunteers who have accepted the challenge to help fight heart disease and stroke, we thank you!

The goal of the Suburban Hospital Heart Walk Team is to raise $30,000 for this all-important cause! Whether your donation is $20 or $200, you can help us find solutions to these diseases. For all donations of $20 or more to the Suburban Hospital Heart Walk Team, individuals will receive an official Suburban Hospital Heart Walk T-shirt. To make a donation or join our team, please click here.

On Saturday, November 1, our Heart Walk Team members are encouraged to meet by 9:30 a.m. at the Suburban Hospital Heart Walk table, which will be located in the tent area on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Together, the Suburban Hospital team walkers will begin the START! Heart Walk. Also, look for fun giveaways, health education materials, and healthy snacks for all visitors to the Suburban Hospital Heart Walk table.

The START! Heart Walk tents and festivities will be located on the National Mall at 4th Street NW, between Madison and Jefferson streets. We encourage all walkers, visitors, and donors to take Metrorail to the event. The two closest Metro stations are Smithsonian (Orange and Blue lines) and National Archives (Green and Yellow lines). Entertainment will begin and tents open at 8:30 a.m.; the kick-off and recognition program will begin at 9:30 a.m.; and the Walk will begin at 10 a.m.

And, walkers remember to pick up your prize at the Finish Line Check-In!
