Special Appearances

Miss Maryland Teen USA Hannah Brewer attending the American Heart Association Annual Stroke brunch at Johns Hopkins University
in Baltimore.

Hannah Brewer

We are excited to host 2013 Miss Maryland Teen USA winner Hannah Brewer at the Pediatrics Festival from 1-2:30pm. Hannah, who has worked hard to promote heart health in Maryland, will share in the spirit and fun of the festival and meet with children and families to share her experience.

Hannah works in the community with several different organizations. One organization is the American Heart Association. Her aunt died suddenly at the age of 54 of a heart attack and several other family members have been affected by cardiovascular disease as well. She is a National Spokesperson for the American Heart Association, an advocate for the “Go Red for Women” campaign, a member of the Baltimore Passion committee, and the Baltimore AHA Advocacy committee.

She lobbied the Maryland Senate for Bill 564, which would enforce at least 30 minutes of Physical Education in public schools daily. She has met with U.S. Maryland Senators to promote causes for the American Heart Association. Hannah has also met with the Maryland State Department of Education to promote a 12 step screening process for all high school athletes.

Homer- Bethesda Big Train Baseball Team Mascot

In 1997, a group of community leaders began discussions of how to improve the conditions of youth baseball and softball fields in Montgomery County, Maryland and the District of Columbia. This group was motivated by the value youth sports has to the development of character and citizenship in young people. Excellent non-profit organizations had been established in the region to support youth sports. However, the playing conditions on the fields were not always adequate. To this day, all proceeds from the Bethesda Big Train continue to enrich the ballfields of Montgomery County, MD and the District of Columbia.

Homer, Big Train's team mascot, will be available to take photos with children and hand out prizes!

A special "thank you" to our many guests, vendors and sponsors who are helping make this festival truly special!
