Dr. Keith Horvath
A highly respected surgeon and gifted researcher, Dr. Horvath is the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery for the NIH Heart Center at Suburban Hospital. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago Medical School. He did his postgraduate surgical training at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and was recently appointed Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Research Laboratory at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Horvath's clinical investigation interests include mitral valve repairs and aortic surgery.

Dr. Philip Corcoran
Originally from Boston, Dr. Corcoran, Cardiothoracic Surgeon for the NIH Heart Center at Suburban Hospital, received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Harvard University and completed his medical training and surgical residency at Georgetown University. Following his Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency at Walter Reed, he remained there for 11 years, expanding and improving the clinical services, training opportunities, and research endeavors. Dr. Corcoran also served as a senior policy advisor to the Office of the Surgeon General of the United States Army on all cardiothoracic surgery matters.
Dr. Corcoran has received numerous national awards, among them the LTG Claire L. Chenault Award for outstanding achievement in clinical practice and education in the NCA Tri-Services (Army/Navy/Air Force). He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Greg Kumkumian
As the medical director of the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Dr. Kumkumian leads the CCU staff in process improvement, focusing on core measures gathered by the State of Maryland, CMS, and TJC. He also provides continuing education opportunities for CCU nurses and educators. A graduate of George Washington University School of Medicine and trained at the University of Maryland in Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine, Dr. Kumkumian is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, and interventional cardiology. Dr. Kumkumian recently joined the Bethesda-based cardiology practice of Maryland Heart, PC.
Dr. Michael P. Siegenthaler
Dr. Siegenthaler is a Cardiovascular Surgeon at the NIH Heart Center at Suburban Hospital. He has more than 15 years of clinical and research experience in the field of cardiovascular surgery. Dr. Siegenthaler attended medical school at the University of Bern, Switzerland, completed a surgical residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and completed a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston. Besides the numerous cardiovascular and thoracic stent graft procedures he performs regularly, he also serves as a scientific and clinical volunteer at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
NIH-Suburban MRI Center
Dr. Andrew Arai is the lead cardiac researcher at NHLBI. He earned his undergraduate degree at Cornell University in 1982 and his medical degree at the University of Illinois in 1986. He completed an internal medicine residency in 1987 and a cardiology fellowship in 1993 at the Oregon Health Sciences University. He served as a visiting researcher and senior staff fellow at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Dr. Arai is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases.
Melody Knapp is the Administrator for Suburban Hospital's Cardiovascular Services. Melody comes to Suburban Hospital with more than 20 years' experience. Most recently, Melody served as the Associate Administrator for Cardiac Services at the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute. At Inova Fairfax, her previous roles included Director of Cardiac, Critical Care and Respiratory Services and management and staff roles for their Cardiac Telemetry Unit. She holds a master's degree in Nursing Administration from George Mason University and a bachelor's degree from Indiana University.
